FTE Guidelines |
TEACHER FTE ALLOCATION The initial Teacher FTE (Full-time Equivalent) Allocation is based upon the estimated student enrollment from VERSION 2.0, received from the director of Planning and Student Services, and the staffing ratios approved by the Board of Education. FTE V2.0 allocation is sent to each school around April 1st. FTE allocations are based on student projections. Principals are encouraged to staff conservatively and MAY NOT HIRE OVER their school’s Allocation. FTE FOR PART-TIME TEACHERS (SECONDARY ONLY) To calculate how much FTE is required for a part-time teacher, please refer to the FTE Period Breakdown Table. |
FTE FOR FULL-TIME TEACHERS TEACHING EXTRA PERIODS (SECONDARY ONLY) Principals are to complete the Seventh / Eighth Period Teaching Authorization form and have the teachers sign it. The form is to be submitted to the Area Executive Director for approval and coding verification. The Area Executive Director will then submit the form to Human Resources. Accounts charged for the extra period must be noted. The amount of FTE charged to middle schools and high schools on the block schedule will be .125. Schools with seven periods and eight periods will be allowed to purchase up to eight periods for one (1) FTE. The pay will be figured on the teacher’s hourly rate. Middle school teachers will be paid one (1) hour’s pay for the extra period they teach during the school day. Teachers on the block schedule will be paid two (2) hour’s pay for every day the class was held (A day or B day). Once a teacher begins teaching the extra class period, he/she will be paid for that extra time each contract day thereafter. If the assignment is for the REMAINDER of the school year, and the authorization form is received in HR on or before the 10th of the month, the contract will be adjusted and no time sheet is necessary. Any assignment NOT for the remainder of the school year (i.e. – only 1st semester or 2nd trimester) must be time sheeted. Teachers will be paid, using the following formula:
Time Sheets will be submitted for teachers working the extra period for part of the year as follows:
10 - LOC - Year - Contract/Program - 1016 – 131
Teachers will be paid for eight (8) hours on Professional Development Days if they attend. Teachers are required to spend one (1) additional hour daily. The timing of these additional hours can be adjusted on a daily basis by the principal with the teacher as is necessary to meet school and personal needs. Teachers will be authorized to continue teaching the extra period only as long as the need exists in the school, as assigned by the principal. If the enrollment needs in the school change, the principal is not required to continue a seventh / eighth period assignment. This arrangement between the principal and the teacher will exist only as long as the need within the school exists. The Seventh / Eighth Authorization expires at the end of the year. A new form is required every year. Teachers authorized to teach an extra period will not be a first year teacher. ENROLLMENT/STAFFING REPORTS The Enrollment/Staffing Report form(s) contains the necessary formulas needed to calculate the school’s qualifying FTE based upon student enrollment. Correct information is critical as the Area Administrators make staffing decisions. Submit via e-mail, no later than 10:00 a.m., the school’s Enrollment/Staffing Report form
