District Policy DP351, Job Sharing (Certificated) states: “Job sharing is only approved for a single contract year. Provisional teachers who have only taught on a half-time basis do not have an expectation of continued employment."

At the end of each school year, all job shares end.  If a teacher desires to continue a job share, the principal must approve the request and a new Job Sharing Proposal must be completed.  This form is sent to the Area Executive Director for approval.  Upon approval, the form is submitted to the Department of Human Resources.  A human resource administrator will sign and date the proposal and return the original to the school principal. The approval by the Department of Human Resources will serve as the principal's proof that the job share has been recorded with Human Resources.

If the job share is a continuation, the Job Sharing Proposal can be updated and submitted for the next school year.  Each year that a job share is continued, an approval form must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources.  After the fourth continuous year in a job share, a simplified Job Sharing Proposal (4+ years) shall be submitted to the principal and the Area Executive Director for approval.

Seniority for job share or half-time employees will begin after successful completion of provisional status (3 years).  Seniority credit will be applied at one year for every two years of continuous job share or half-time experience thereafter.

In the event that one certificated employee resigns, the other certificated employee will assume the full job responsibility until a replacement can be hired. Such a certificated employee will receive the full-time contract rate during the interim.

Note: In the event an employee changes his/her teaching contract from a full workday to a half workday, or a half workday to a full workday, the number of sick leave workdays the employee has accumulated will transfer to the workday of the new contract.  For example: if a full-time employee had accumulated 15 full workdays on a full-time contract and changes to a half-time contract, he/she would have 15 half-work days accumulated as a half-time employee, and vice-versa.  A workday is defined by the employee's contractual agreement.

JOB SHARE HIRING PROCEDURE

In order to complete a job share with the Department of Human Resources, the following procedures must be followed:

1.     Teacher(s) desiring a job share must discuss the details with the school principal.  The school principal will review his/her expectations of a job share and will review the Job Sharing Proposal form and policy with the teacher(s).

2.     The teacher(s) must complete a Job Sharing Proposal and submit it to the principal for approval.

3.     If the Job Sharing Proposal meets the principal’s expectations, he/she will sign the proposal and submit it to the Area Executive Director for final approval.*

4.     The Area Executive Director will accept or reject the Job Sharing Proposal.  If the proposal is rejected, the Area Executive Director will return the proposal to the principal.  If the proposal is accepted, the Area Executive Director will submit it to the Department of Human Resources.  A human resource administrator will sign and date the proposal, record the job share, and then return the original to the school principal.

5.     The principal must send hire sheets and/or assignment change sheets to the Department of Human Resources immediately upon receipt of the approved proposal.

6.     The principal must gather information (from students, parents, and team members) for a year-end feedback report.

* If a teacher desires a job share and does not have another teacher to job share with, he/she must have the Job Sharing Proposal approved by the school principal before seeking a job share partner.   The teacher will need to find a qualified educator who will agree to share the job as designed by the teacher and approved by the principal.  All candidates interviewed for any job share position must be requested through the Department of Human Resources.

Once a teacher has been selected, steps five (5) and six (6) of the job share procedure must be carried out.
