Non-Renewal or Extension of Provisional Teachers
NON-RENEWAL
As administrators it is our desire that every teacher is successful in their assignment. On occasion, even after concerted efforts by the administration to provide the teacher with support, it becomes neccessary to non-renew a contract for a provisional teacher.
If you decide that it is in the best interest of your students, and Jordan School District, to non-renew a contract for a provisional teacher, the principal must complete and submit to the Executive Director of Human Resources, no later than March 12, 2010, the following items:
- Recommendation for Provisional Non-Renewal coversheet, including all documentation listed on the coversheet.
Human Resources will then review the recommendation/request, and
- When approved you will be sent the appropriate letter with the Executive Director of Human Resource's signature. (If denied, you will receive a phone call from Human Resources explaining why.)
- Upon receipt, the principal signs the letter.
- No later than March 19, 2010, the principal meets with the teacher and has the teacher sign the letter.
- The principal makes two copies of the letter for distribution.
- A copy for the teacher
- A copy for the principal
- The principal returns the signed original letter to the Executive Director of Human Resources as soon as possible to be placed in the personnel file of the teacher.
Note: A resignation of a provisional teacher is treated the same as a non-renewal by the Human Resource Department. Please contact the Executive Director of Human Resources for further instructions, if the provisional teacher requests to resign rather than be non-renewed.
Extension
If you decide that the provisional teacher you are working with is making progress and his/her performance in the classroom is improving, you may request a provisional status extension. Please follow the same instructions as above; however, you must use the Request for Provisional Status Extension coversheet and include ALL documentation listed on the coversheet. A provisional status extension is for one (1) additional year only.
