Salary Supplement for Highly Needed Educators (SHiNE)

2026–2027 School Year

Jordan School District will continue participation in the Salary Supplement for Highly Needed Educators (SHiNE) program for the 2026–2027 school year.

The SHiNE program provides a salary supplement to licensed educators who teach in designated high-need subject areas. The purpose of this program is to support recruitment and retention in critical teaching areas across the district.

2026–2027 Application Window

Application Opens: August 17, 2026
Application Deadline: September 17, 2026
Approval/Denial Notifications: September 25, 2026
First SHiNE Payment: October 25, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for SHiNE funding, an educator must meet all of the following:

  • Be a licensed educator.
  • Be the teacher of record.
  • Provide direct classroom instruction to students.
  • Be assigned to teach in an approved SHiNE subject area.
  • Meet the content qualification requirement.
  • Have a passing JPAS evaluation on the most recent three evaluations.

Eligible Subject Areas

  • Special Education – Teacher of record only
  • Mathematics – Grades 7–12
  • Science
    • Integrated Science
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
  • CTE – Computer Science

Content Qualification Requirement

Educators must meet one of the following criteria for the eligible subject they are teaching:

  • Hold a degree in the exact discipline of the eligible subject area; or
  • Have 10 or more years of teaching experience in Utah in that subject.

Funding Distribution

SHiNE funding is distributed from a fixed district allocation and divided among eligible educators.

Each educator's payment is:

  • Based on their qualifying FTE in an eligible assignment.
  • Prorated if less than full-time in an eligible area.

Because funding is based on total participation, final payment amounts may vary slightly each year.

Non-Eligible Positions

The following do not qualify for SHiNE funding:

  • Instructional coaches
  • Related services, including SLP, OT, PT, psychologists, and similar positions
  • Non-classroom or support-only roles
  • Educators not assigned to one of the eligible subject areas listed above

Eligibility is determined annually based on your 2026–2027 teaching assignment.

Educators who are unsure of their eligibility are encouraged to apply. All applications will be reviewed based on assignment and program criteria.
